Drummer god

Quick synopsis

The last couple months of this year can fuck right the fuck off and die in a fire.

However, my band rocks. I'm digging what we do.

A lot.

Maybe there will be more of a explanation post before the end of the year, maybe not.

But yeah, music. Fuck. Yes. We make it, and we make it heavy.

So, for the 3 of you that don't know:

I'm in a band again, and we've been working on some stuff.

We've got a Facebook page:

This page tracks our shows and whatnot. We recently put our first track up. You should go listen to it. Mind you, I feel obligated to point out that it's a work in progress and a (well mixed) room recording at that, but I'm actually pretty proud of how it turned out.

There's an alternate place to find the track, if you hates the books of faces:

Check it out if you like, and we're always looking for feedback. Feel free to friend/fan/whatever us if you dig it.
Day to day life

Good trip, and other stuff

Back from the cross country jaunt, which I may or may not get around to doing a pictorial write up of some time in the near-ish future. It was good.

Now comes the pack and prep for the yearly camp out. This is also good.

Found out yesterday that one of my best friends at work got canned for trumped up bullshit after eight years of service. In its own way, this is also good, but it's still a steaming pile of fetid bovine excrement. Resolve has been cemented, and the job search begins in earnest. I'm not waiting around for that to happen to me.

But now, back to the camp prep. I still have five and a half days that I don't have to think about that place, with the last day being the one where we move into our practice space. This is good, and I intend to make full use of all time away, as they're not giving me any serious reason to want to go back.

Fuck it, whatever. Back to the good.

Trip log: Illinois, I think...

Landed in Columbus and realized that I didn't have my sister's current cell number. An hour plus later, ran into my brother in law, and all was well. Spent a lovely day poking about Columbus, and discovered at least 3 really tastey local breweries. Also, had the best ice cream I've ever tasted there, too.

Napped for most of the ride through Ohio. Pretty sure I didn't miss a hell of a lot.

Got to Kentucky and massive cat drama occured. Long story short, never fly your pet Delta if you've got to fly them somewhere. They shoved my sister's cat into the back of a storage closet in Detroit and lost him for 24 hours. He's now safe at my mom's place, luckily.

Packed the house into the truck, had some backyard bonfires, chatted with the neighbors, sent several warning shots to my liver in preperation for Memorial Day. All in all a pleasent way to spend three days.

Today, did a tour of the Woodford Reserve distillery in Versailles, KY, just outside of Lexington. Fun fact, folks: it is illegal to sell or serve alcohol on an election day from 6am-6pm in Kentucky. Today was an election day, and therefore no samples of the wares to be had.

Fucking Kentucky.

On the upside, we stopped at an amazing brewpub in Louisville for dinner. At 6:15 pm. We had to wait almost an hour for a table. Apparently voting is thirsty work...
The beer was very good, which was a pleasent surprise after my last trip out this way 5ish years ago. The BBQ was to die for, as expected.

We're now somewhere just across the Illinois border, I believe, with a goal of St. Louis for breakfast.

Pics of Woodford can be found on the Facebook.

Four hours is a fuck of a long time to sit in an airport. As far as airports go it's a nice one, and it beats the hell out of being stuck in a Little Rock Greyhound station for six hours, but still...

(no subject)

We got a 2 mic room sound recording of one of our songs today at practice.

There were mistakes, for certain, but yeah... it actually sounded pretty good. If this is any indication of where we'll be by the time we hit the stage, I'm a happy, happy drummer.

Getting back

Had band practice today, and somewhere in there something clicked. My body began to remember how this game is played. I was starting to do the things I know I can do, without having to force it.

I need my endurance back, and I've got blisters where my callouses used to be, but I'm getting there. It's becoming more of a reality to me. This makes me kinda giddy, really. I've missed it. I walked into the practice room at one point, and it even *smelled* right. Not to say that it would smell good to most anyone else, but there's something about the smell of sweat, hot tubes and solid-state equipment mixed together that will always bring a smile to my face.

junya had his new set up there today, too. Hot damn, that sounds sweet. feardiagh has improved greatly just in the last couple of weeks. Markedly so, actually. So awesome to hear. We borrowed the Beeflord from johnnymohawk for our bassist, and I think this was the first practice where we could actually hear each other. Got our cover song mostly figured out, which isn't bad considering our singer doesn't get in until mid-April. Got other bits to some original stuff laid out. On stage by October is looking like a far more feasible goal. This, too, pleases me greatly.

I hurt. I hurt in places that haven't been sore for far, far too long. This, as a third point, also makes me smile. I've needed this. I had no idea how much I was missing it.
